Supply chain financial analysis workshop

Overview

This workshop bridges the gap between finance and supply chain by demonstrating how supply chain actions affect the income statement and the balance sheet—two key financial statements—and showing how supply chain decisions can be translated into financial metrics.

Target group: Executives and managers who need and want to know supply chain finance fundamentals to make better business decisions. Programme date: 8 & 9 November 2018 Programme duration: 2 days Language of instruction: English Method: This executive course is a fast-paced mix of simulations, case studies, research findings and thought-provoking, interactive class sessions. The workshop includes exercises that challenge the participants to make critical investments in working capital, focusing on four core supply chain elements: inventory, capital operating equipment, payables and receivables. The course fees cover participation in the two-day programme, which includes teaching materials and lunch and breaks. Travel expenses to and from the course location and accommodation are not included. After the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Jim Rice joined the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) in 1995 and he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Center in 2007. In this capacity he oversees several research and outreach programs, MIT CTL Executive Education Programs and outreach marketing activities. Jim serves as the Director of the MIT Integrated Supply Chain Management (ISCM) Program, a collaborative research consortium with industry sponsors. As part of these roles, Jim works with industry sponsors to develop research projects and educational and knowledge sharing events for the sponsors.

Anne Lange

Associate Professor, Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LCL)

Anne Lange is an Associate Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Luxembourg. Her research interests are in transportation, network analysis and supply chain finance. She enjoys to conduct research in cooperation with industry and has done so for example with DB Schenker, DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.

Prior to joining the LCL, Anne Lange was an Assistant Professor endowed by DB Schenker at TU Darmstadt. She has received her doctoral degree from the University of Cologne and has been as a PostDoc researcher at TU Eindhoven as well as the University of Cologne.

What will the workshop cover?

Supply chain and finance are two core functions of every business. The success of business is often measured in financial terms, and supply chain management is no exception to it. Supply chain professionals use different metrics and indicators to measure performance. Understanding how these metrics and indicators function is an asset for every supply chain professional who must speak the language of finance in order to communicate achievements to top management. In this workshop, supply chain professionals learn how supply chain and finance interact and what can be gathered for operations and finance by analysing the activities from a financial perspective.
